Mobile Pop-Up Café Cuts Carbon Emissions from Shipping

During the holiday season of 2021, Love Beauty and Planet, an environmentally-friendly, vegan Unilever personal care brand partnered with Promobile Marketing to launch their ‘Plan It For The Planet’ initiative promoting environmental consciousness around same-day and next-day rush deliveries.

In pursuit of a more eco-friendly world, Love Beauty and Planet employed a unique strategy in NYC on Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year. With the help of Promobile Marketing, they set up a mobile pop-up café offering a choice of two complimentary vegan and dairy-free drinks, a spiced matcha latte with almond milk, or peppermint hot chocolate.

From their custom designed coffee cart beautifully decorated with fresh cut flowers, they were able to spread awareness about their ‘Plan It For The Planet’ commitment, provide eco-friendly shopping tips, and encouraged a cleaner, greener holiday season.

They pledged to donate $19.99 to the National Forest Foundation for reforestation projects, for every use of the hashtag PlanItforthePlanet on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or TikTok, up to $150,000 to help support the planting of 150,000 new trees across the U.S.

Why $19.99? That’s equivalent to the typical cost of rush shipping for Love Beauty and Planet customers. The initiative urged consumers to finalize their holiday purchases by December 4th, and encouraged them to forego express shipping options. This strategy was aimed at reducing the environmental toll associated with same day or next-day delivery. Same day or next-day delivery has been shown to produce around 40% more carbon emissions than its standard counterpart.

Data revealed that if every customer avoided same-day or next-day shipping and wrapped up their online purchases by the suggested date, it could lead to a reduction of about 2.4 million tons in carbon emissions. This amount is akin to the carbon capture potential of 40 million trees over a 10-year period.
